An indication of Greater Detroit’s successful popular music and theater scene is the large number of concert and live performance venues throughout the region. Be prepared to enjoy anything from children’s theatrical and musical art shows at Detroit’s Mosaic Youth Theatre to the latest in pop and local music at Detroit’s Majestic Theatre.

The Fox Theatre, an opulent former movie palace, stages everything from Broadway plays and big movie extravaganzas, to world-class entertainers. Broadway plays can also be seen at the Fisher Theater, originally a movie house which was redesigned into a theater. The Masonic Temple not only serves the needs of the Masons in Greater Detroit, but also features Broadway plays and concerts. The Music Hall is considered Greater Detroit’s home for dance, presenting major dance troupes, theatrical productions, children’s programming and concerts.

The Michigan Opera Theater performs at the Detroit Opera House, a multi-million dollar renovation of the former Grand Circus Theatre. Musical guests from around the world perform with the internationally acclaimed Detroit Symphony Orchestra at The Max M. Fisher Music Center under musical director Leonard Slatkin, in newly restored Orchestra Hall. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra performs summer concerts at the outdoor Meadow Brook Music Festival, on the campus of Oakland University. Meadow Brook Theater, also located at Oakland University, shows classic comedies, musicals and drama productions. Because of the theater’s design, no one in the audience is more than 19 rows from the stage.

DTE Energy Music Theater is an outdoor summer music theater where top name musicians entertain. The music theater generally is the venue with the largest number of ticket sales in the nation.

Freedom Hill Amphitheatre is an indoor and outdoor state of the art music and movie theater surrounded by Freedom Hill County Park. It is considered one of the largest entertainment arenas in the United States, with a seating capacity of 4,000 pavilion seats and 3,000 lawn seats. The Freedom Hill Amphitheatre has an elegant onsite banquet facility, VIP Hillside Club and a newly acquired Andiamo Italia Restaurant.
